Consider the client
As what has been emphasised throughout the course, you need to consider the client. In this case think about the following...
-
What do they want on their site? Often a client will not have ideas of how to organise the information until you prompt them with ideas.
-
How should the site be organised, and what navigation structure should be used? See the notes on navigation for further ideas of different ways site navigation can be achieved.
-
Many versions of the site will probably need to be done to give the client opportunity to feedback to you what they are wanting. Often an idea for a site will then require re-wording, and often the site structure and navigation may need to be changed. Good use of templates and CSS should help to keep the site flexible for alterations requested by the client.
You should therefore refer to the results of the discussions with the client as the design specifications for the site you will build for this week's work.
Consider HTML website standards
After you have finished, next week's work will include validation of your site against industry standards for website design using validation tools.
Making pages the same
One of the features of a site is that each of the pages on the site have the same look and navigation structure on them. This is usually done using a template. Templates can be created in Kompozer, and a more powerful feature also occurs in Dreamweaver. Pre-prepared templates are also available when using Dreamweaver and FrontPage. KompoZer also has the facility to open a previously created web-page (including one from the Internet), and edit it to be used for your own site (CSS styles will need to be imported and relevant images created, taking care of copyright rules).
For your exercise this week, it is sufficient to make one page, and then copy it to be a number of copies of the same page, with a different file name. Then edit the pages to have different titles and content. The procedure for this will be included in the suggested procedure depending on your method of construction and navigation.
When the design specifications from the client are considered, we could use a site structure which could be represented like this:
